The Third Annual Middle East Conflict Memorial Tribute will be held in the Illinois Valley Cellular parking lot on Riverfront Drive, in Marseilles, Illinois on June 17th, 2006 at 1:00pm.
The Wall Memorial was built in 2004. Since its completion, on the third Saturday in June, a Memorial Service is held in front of the Wall, for the families who have lost a loved one in the Middle East Conflicts. There have been over 700 hundred casualties since the reading of the names from last year’s ceremony. These names will be added to the granite walls and be honored during this year’s ceremony in front of thousands who will pay their respects.
The Wall Memorial is the only one of its kind in the United States and is funded through private donations from citizens, businesses, and organizations in Illinois. The Marseilles Middle East Tribute Committee is trying to get awareness out to the General Public of this monument and event. This monument does not just honor soldiers from Illinois, but from all over the United States. The Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Dun Organization, founders of the Memorial and the Marseilles Middle East Tribute Committee rely on private donations and fund raisers, to support this event and maintain the engravings and ground maintenance of the wall. There is not admission fee to attend the event and the general public is invited to pay their respects this upcoming June 17th. The Illinois Valley Cellular Building, which is adjacent to the wall memorial, will have limited access to family members and participants of the Memorial Service. This is the third such event and an estimated crowd of over 40,000 people are expected to return to the Wall. For motorcycle enthusiasts who are patriotic supporters, please visit www.illinoismotorcyclefreedomrun.org for details of this year’s Freedom Run. For more information and current updates for pre-event activities in Marseilles, contact the Marseilles Middle East Conflict Tribute Committee at 815-795-7163.
Our Committee is completely independent from the Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run (IMFR) group in Summitt, Illinois and the “City” of Marseilles. The Committee’s main purpose is to raise funds to help maintain and beautify the wall; such as sod, trees, flags, and the possibility to placing names on the wall in the future. In addition, we will assist if needed the City or IMFR to help make the Marseilles Middle East Tribute a success; by helping with cleaning up the memorial site, decorating Main Street, organization and parking.
Sincerely,
Gary Lewey 795-7562
