As native Americans and Frencch explorers forged the winding river, they discovered this beautiul area srrounded by snadstne bluffs, ravines, woods, and praries. Soon pioneers and settlers followed, and farms and small communities quickly began to locate along river banks. Ths river was later named the Illinois River. Today...decades and generations later many of those founding family's ancestors still own land and live in this area. With the natural tranquility our region offers, it is no wonder many new residents and making The Illinois River Area their home.

Illini State Park is situated along the banks of the Illinois River just across the Marseilles River Bridsge. This park offers campsites with showers and eletricity, playgrounds, a new public boat lanuch, shelters with grills and fireplaces, and public bathrooms. There too are several trails that wind throughout the park. Just west of the river bridge there is a river look out that provides a breath-taking view of the water. There also is a small ice-skating rink and sledding hill which are popular sites when weather permits. This park is handicap accessible. Two cabins are aviable to rent at Illini State Park...please contact the park ranger for reservations at 815-795-2448
